like, i wanna study for this test…..but i also don’t care
in social psych we’re learning about cognitive dissonance and post-decision dissonance, basically people are more confident about their decisions after they make them, and they rate whatever they decide as better than whatever they didnt decide. it’s a way of making sure they feel ok with their decision even if it was a shit one, but they have no idea it’s happening (this process of making oneself feel better about a decision). but i’m the complete opposite. every time i make a decision im like “shit fuck i should have chosen the other thing!!!!” and im really pissed about it for a long time and i have to force myself to reduce the dissonance, consciously, as opposed to the textbook which says people do this unconsciously, because i know if i dont i will keep beating myself up over it. whereas most people really convince themselves that their decision was the best without trying, i have to deliberately go through that process to try to convince myself to believe a lie so that i dont ruminate forever over how much i wanted the other thing… or i just have to force myself to stop thinking about it altogether… because it’s really stressful and i can’t do anything about it. i dont actually believe it was the better decision i just have to pretend the alternatives never existed or else it will figuratively kill me, and im usually still pretty dissatisfied because it doesnt work very well
It’s a Very Late Almost Sunday Saturday Spread!
Because I totally forgot today was Saturday and was really busy with stuff.
Anyway! This is a Letting go of the Past spread. It is very different from other spreads because guess what? YOU GET TO CHOOSE A CARD.
If there is an issue, such as a past relationship, employment, or just some sort of emotion you want to move past, you can choose it! Simply go through the Major Arcana cards (the first 22), and choose the card that best fits the situation. For some instances, there will be many types of cards to chose from. Then you shuffle the deck and deal the other four cards as normal.
Card One: I want to let go of… (This is the card you choose)
Card Two: What is stopping me?
Card Three: How to move forward
Card Four: Future Influences to avoid
Card Five: Future Influences to embrace
